In the summer of 1991 Disney released the film The Rocketeer , based on Dave Stevens' short lived comic book series. My mom took me to see the film on opening weekend and I was immediately blown away by it. It had everything I loved: planes, plenty of action, and a superhero that reminded me of Commando Cody. I was in nirvana for those 2 hours. Soon I wanted to get my hands on every single piece of Rocketeer toys or collectibles out there. Unfortunately due to the film's poor reception at the box office a lot of the merchandise based on the film was released in small quantities or cleared out of store shelves soon after the film's release. Imagine how surprised I was when on a Saturday afternoon visit to my local comic shop I looked up to the top shelves where they usually stacked up the action figures and model kits to find a flying replica of the amazing Gee Bee plane piloted by Cliff Secord in the film. We're all familiar with the hit comedies from Judd Apatow: "The 40 year old virgin", "Knocked Up", "Superbad", "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", "Pineapple Express", "Heavyweights". "Heavyweights"??? Wait a second you've never heard of or seen "Heavyweights"? I don't blame you. But this situation should be rectified immediately. "Heavyweights" was one of Apatow's early writing gigs and is probably one of the funniest kid movies ever made, but unfortunately it never did get a chance to find a solid audience during its original theatrical run. Released by Walt Disney Pictures back in 1995 during a time when their live action comedies where not generating much revenue the film came and went with very little promotional push from its distributor. Growing up in the 80's one of the staples of Sunday evening was "The Wonderful World of Disney". Every week we'd get an original kid friendly film or a network premiere of receent Disney theatrical releases. One of the most enjoyable and fun filled TV movies to come out of this line up was "The B.R.A.T. Patrol". The film follows a group of adventure seeking kids living with their parents at a military base who discover a plot by a rotten officer to steal and sell military equipment. The brats tend to get into so much trouble that as soon as they tell their parents about their discovery no one really believes them, leaving them no choice but to take matters into their own hands and stop the criminal operation.
